1/11/10 Hegura-jima, Japan

1/11/10: A SW3 wind that increased to WSW6 during the day. Heavy rain at dawn but walked the isle from 7.30am to 10.30am when heavy rain again forced us indoors until it subsided at 2pm. We then got out until dark doing our best to shelter from heavy showers. We enjoyed a good movement of 170 Eye-browed Thrushes and 90 Dusky Thrushes. Hawfinches were again seen moving in the poor weather conditions and good numbers of Rustic Buntings were on the island. Rufous Turtle Doves were seen arriving in off the sea throughout the day and a flock of 6 Japanese Green Pigeons also represented their peak daily number. Pallas’s Rosefinches had increased to 3 and both Siberian Accentor and a Red-breasted Flycatcher were seen. There was also a noticeable increase in Slaty-backed Gulls with 30 present around the harbour.
